A Tribute to Coupons

The Couponer's Lament
Written by Veronica Meyers

I woke up this morning
The sun was shining bright

I'd been dreaming of the coupon fairies
Oh! What a lovely night!

Got up, got dressed, got coupons
Off to CVS I went

The following tale is why this is called
The Couponer's Lament

I walked in the door, coupons in hand
My plan was all set

The shelves had empty spaces
So I grabbed what I could get

I asked the cashier where the milk was
She said "I don't know. I don't stock it!

And why do you have those coupons?
The money comes straight from my pocket!"

She scanned my items roughly
and threw them in the bag

I bit down on my tongue
To keep from yelling at the hag

I had placed my coupons on the counter
You wouldn't think I'd have to remind

But, she barked out my total so I slid them closer
'Cause apparently she was blind

"This one says Do Not Double!" she spat out
with that voice I was beginning to loathe

"I can only let you use one.
You're not allowed to use both!"

"That's not what that means."I said
while trying to keep my cool

"Please call your manager up here.
Before you make up another rule."

He came up to offer assistance
She rushed to tell her side

But, I showed him the terms of the coupons
and assured him I had complied

He said "Martha, just scan the coupons.
You called me up for this?"

He turned to me with a smile and said
"Sorry for the inconvenience, miss."

She reluctantly scanned the coupons
"Did you get them all?" I enquired

"Yes!" she said with a sneer
"And I hope I don't get fired!"

My total had gone from twenty dollars
all the way down to two

She tendered my order, gave me my change
and two ECB's spit out right on cue

I walked out the door with a smile on my face
But, her temper finally blew

She yelled "That isn't right at all!
You didn't pay us. We paid you!"

My Shopping Trip

This was the BEST week ever to go to Walgreens!! I hit 4 different stores in 4 days and I plan on going back again today since I still have $20 in RR!!

I spent $19.79 OOP, what with my intial $9 starter OOP cost and then tax and the little fillers needed to reach my totals.

Here is what I got:

7 Venus Embrace Razors
1 Schick Intuition Razor
2 Schick Quatro Razors (1 with MP3 Player Armband)
2 Schick Titanium Men's Razors
2 Schick Titanium Razor Refills
27 Crest Toothpaste
2 Tag BodySprays for Men
8 Gillete 2 in 1 Bodywashes
4 Old Spice Bodywash
5 pks Zantac
1 Bag Cotton Balls
1 Jergens Lotion
1 Edge Men's Shaving Cream
1 Box Whitmans Chocolates
1 Box Russell Stover Chocolates
2 Pks Charmin 6 ct
4 Cover Girl Nailpolishes (sadly, I didn't have any CG MQ's, we never get them!!)
2 Covergirl Slick Lips Lipgloss

Total Used In MQ Coupons: $99.48
Total Earned in Register Rewards: $136.84
Total Saved with Sale Prices and MQ: $303.76 worth of items for only $19.79!!

I might add that I was a little disappointed w/my OOP cost as I always seem to pay more OOP at Walgreen's than I do at CVS. Does anyone else get the same feeling or is it just me?

What did you get this week?

My Shopping Trip

MoneySavingMom is hosting Super Savings Saturday so I'm in!!

See how happy that baby is in the picture? Well that's exactly how I felt on this deal!!

I had to make a last minute stop to Pathmark on Thursday nite to get a few items before the sale ended and as an unexpected surprise, I found the Pampers Cruisers 34 pk marked down to $6.99! That's a $10 savings and it was unadvertised so I was excited as I searched for my $1.50 MQ's!!

I wound up getting 4 pks:
4 pks at $6.99 ea
=$27.96

Used:
(4) $1.50/ 1 MQ
$5 Pathmark Catalina
= $16.96 for 4 packs!

Originally the packs are $16.99 each so essentially it was like B1G3 Pks Free or $4.24 a pk or $.08 per pamper!! I was so psyched and since my son is in the stage of Potty Training, these should last quite a while!!

~Moral of the Story:
Check all the aisles for any Unadvertised deals you may miss out on!! I didn't even need anything from the baby aisle, but I'm sure glad that I went down it!!

What $10 Got Us

We had a busy day, declaring it Family Fun Day and of course we went to Toys R Us for the Egg Hunt and got our Free little bag of goodies! The kids had fun running around the aisles looking for the ladies w/the Eggs! I'm glad we did go early as it did get crowded really fast!

My goal today was to not spend more than $10 on our shopping, so here's what we got:

First Stop: Rite Aid

Bought 4 pairs No Nonsense Socks @ .99 ea
Used (4) $1/1 Pair

Total BC $3.96
Total AC FREE
(cashier had to adjust last MQ)

Second Stop: CVS
Bought:
2 Nivea Shaving Gels @ $2.99 ea
2 Bags Dove Cho @ $3 ea
2 Bags Hershey's Reserve @ 3.29 ea
12 pk Gingerale @ 2.99
1 Nail polish @ 1.49 (it was 75% off for DD)

Total BC $23.04
Total AC and ECB's : .75 OOP

Last Stop: Walgreen's

Bought 4 Jane Cosmetics @ Varying prices
1 Container Cashews @ $2.50
4 pks Trident gum @ $1.19 ea
2 pks Kotex pads @ $2.50 ea

Total BC $30.02
Total AC $7.06 OOP

So we paid a Total of $7.81 for $57.02 worth of Stuff (really more if I caculated the sale priced items from the reg price)!

Which leads me to ask you, when you are calculating your Savings, do you include the Before Sale Price or After sale Price?
What did you get this week?
