Ways to Save @ The Grocery Store
While I have received many requests as to why I don't have a "Coupon 101" list, I feel there are many posts out there that have been written that already do a great job at the basics. I will however choose my favorites and post at the sidebar this weekend so that newcomers can get the information that is so imperative to learning to save!! Look for my link list shortly!!
Meanwhile here is a short list of ways that you can implement to help you save @ the supermarket:
1. Be sure to plan ahead before going to the grocery market:
Check your local sales ads and favorite sales blogs before making your grocery lists out to see what's on sale.
2. Gather/Clip your coupons:
Match up your coupons with the sales. There are plenty of sites that do the matching up for you:
Coupon Mom
Becentsable
The Grocery Game
Or print coupons online:
Coupons.com
Smartsource.com
Coolsavings.com
Boodle.com
(Try and go to markets that double the manufacturer coupons to double the savings! )
3.Try the store brand instead of the name brand items.
Believe it or not, sometimes there really isn't a difference other than the price. For instance, I actually prefer the Pathmark brand of loaf bread to stroehmann bread as it is so soft and fresh!
4. Check unit prices per size vs cost.
This can sometimes make a really big difference in derterming whether the price is good for the value! More doesn't alway mean better savings. Stay informed and you'll save more.Do you know the difference between an item price and a unit price? If not, you can get more details here.
5. Buy your meats in bulk family packs and separate into smaller packs for freezer storage.
6.If an item is on on sale for example 3/$5, you don't always have buy the full 3 items unless stated "You Must Buy 3".
Example: That pasta that is advertised at 3/$5 is really only $1.66 wyb buy just 1.
7.If an advertised item is out of stock, get a raincheck! Most stores will issue you a raincheck for the sale price so that you can the item for that price.
A few more tools to help guide you as well!
Newbies can start here with HCW's Couponing 101 article.
Track all of your rebates with an Online Rebate Tracker .
Start a Grocery Price Book .You can download and print your own. ( I actually have this spreadsheet!)
Download a Grocery Savings Tracker and a Stockpile Calculator here to help keep you aware of your savings and needs.
Do you have any ideas or tools that you use?

Blog DIY Series

Each Thursday I will post a small tip and/or trick (such as the small banner above that I made in about 5 minutes!) that you can implement into your blog to spruce it up or make it better. I will do the research and then lay it all out for you to be able to understand. Just remember, I am NOT a Web Designer by any means (its tough work!!) and I am learning along just as you are! I am only a novice taking it 1 step at a time and I encourage you to make sure that you fully understand the instructions before taking it on:)
We'll talk about Blog Templates, Widgets , Helpful Generators as well as learning How to make Banners , Headers & Avatars . If there is anything that you would like to learn to do, please send an email my way and I'll try my best to implement it for you. Again, please note that I am teaching myself as we go along with this series so any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated as well!!
Any tips that deem necessary to present to you the final look, I will post on a Test Blog for you to view.
If you have any questions or don't understand my instructions for any of the Blog tips, please feel free to ask. I'm sure you may not be the only one with the same question and I may not have explained something in its entirety or clearly:)
Blogger Sisters, get your toolbelts ready!! The 1st post to this series will begin next Thursday which gives me time to do some research!!

Works for Me Wednesday

Join Shannon @ Rocksinmydryer for the weekly What Works for Me Meme and get some really great Tips & Ideas!!
What works for me is the Schick Intuition Razor!! I have dozens of razors but this week I decided to use the Intuition Razor and I must tell you gals, I won't be using any other razor from now on!!
First, the razor is so pretty and a nice size to handle. The cartridge alone looks really large because of the shaving bar that is attached but that shaving bar is phenomenol! It really works! It lathers and shaves in 1 effortless motion and it glides against the skin for a smooth almost magic motion that was really surprising!! It waqs so great that I had to call my daughter up to demonstrate the ease of it,lol!
I really wonder how long the cartridge itself will last as it seems that it melts rather quickly (they do at least provide you with 2 in a pkg!) but this def is Queen of all Razors!!

Blog Tips & Tricks anyone?
I have a question to ask all of my readers out there. This blog has been primarily set up for coupons & deals but lately I've been rather restless with the posts. I would like to add more than just deals.
Just recently, I discovered how to make my own little banner headers and I've been thinking that maybe some of you would be interested in learning how to spruce up your blogs a bit with a DIY for blog series that would give some tips & tricks for your blog that you could do yourself.
I'm not talking about all the great techie stuff, just some little simple basics:) Would anyone be interested? If so,please leave a comment and let me know what you would interested in learning and I could research it!
Thanks in advance to everyone!

Good to be Green Part 2 : Get Paid to Recycle
We're back on track this week with the 2nd part to our small series "Good to Be Green". If you missed the 1st part, you can follow along here.
Last week we discussed The Why's of going green. This week, let's talk about The How to's. One of the most important & easiest ways to start is to recycle:
Definition of Recycle: taking a product or material at the end of its useful life and turning it into a usable raw material to make another product.
There are 4 main Categories to recycling : Curbside Recycling, Composting, Electronics & Gargage Recyclables.
*Curbside Recycling is when you place your items such as cans, plastics, bottles & papers out on the curb for pick up.
*Composting is nature's process of recycling decomposed organic materials into a rich soil known as compost. When you compost, you are returning nutrients back into the dirt.
A Benefit of Compost :
You'll get healthy plants from the rich, fertile soil that look better & grow better!
*Electronics that are older should be disposed of because they often contain dangerous elements such as lead and mercury that can contaminate the soil and water supply.
Some electronics you can donate such as cell phones & old computers. For more info, see here .
*In the garage, items such as paint & used motor oil are recyclable too!
There are many programs out there that are available for you that offer incentives and/or rewards programs. One such program is Recycle Bank where you can earn valuable rewards for recycling .
With Recycle bank, Just toss all of your recyclables into your recycling cart, with no sorting needed. When you sign up, you'll receive a special recycling bin that has a Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) chip ) embedded into your family’s recycling cart. This chip is used to record the weight, then converts it to points, and credits that amount directly to your account. You can then redeem those points for discounts and rewards at hundreds of participating businesses. You'll earn 2.5 RecycleBank points for each pound of recyclable materials.
How Recycle Bank works: 3 Step Process
1.Recycle: Place all your recyclable materials into one cart for curbside pick up
2.Record: Carts have an identification tag that is recorded by the recycling truck.
3.Reward: The amount recycled is converted into RecycleBank Points, which you can use to order rewards.
And one of their partners happens to be CVS where you can use your recycle bank awards at CVS!!
For a list of areas that participate in this program see here. Unfortunately my area is not participating as of yet but hopefully it will soon! I would love to earn more money to spend at CVS,lol!!
Staples offers $3 back through the Staples Rewards Program toward a future purchase of ink or toner when HP, Lexmark™ or original Dell cartridges are returned to the retail stores for recycling.
Through the InkDrop service, they make it easy for customers to always have the ink they need. When a cartridge runs out, customers simply drop a new one in the printer and mail in the empty cartridge using the prepaid shipping materials. You'll get a replacement automatically, and all shipping is free.
Recycle Rewards School Program offers schools a way to earn money by collecting used inkjet and laser printer cartridges and cell phones and donating to the school. You can download free posters to promote the fundraiser!
These are just a few programs out there. There are many more that are atate specific so call your local county office for more information on any programs they may have to offer.
Do you know of any other rewards programs out there? We would love to know!!

Super Savings Stories
Each week we are going to be setting up a Mr. Linky for everyone to post their Shopping Trips and their Weekly Savings Stories. I always love hearing about how much everyone saves as it can inspire others who are new to using Coupons and Frugality! The posts will help serve as a reminder as to why we sometimes go without and that the hard work we put into saving is truly rewarding and worthwhile!
Each Tuesday (I chose Tuesdays so that we can all get a bit of ispiration in the beginning of the week to help us get through the week!)we will put up the Mr Linky for you to post your savings story. It can be on anything not just the Groceries or on "CVS Deals". It doesn't have to be the same week as well, I understand that its only Tuesday! Did you save money on your electric bill last month? Tell us how and how much, we are here to inspire others with creatives means of saving any way we can.Did you get a great deal online? Share your story with everyone here!
This is a 2 part feature as well. After everyone has posted their awesome stories, at the end of the week, we will pick a person who has done some "Super Savings" and award them with a Blog Award to prominently display on your blog (currently under construction) as well send a small gift such as an envelope of coupons, a book, etc. I think everyone should be rewarded for their hard work and great savings!
How to enter each week:
Just post about your Super Saving Story on your blog and come back and post a link.
Please put a link back to us in your post
The links will be closed on Saturday @ 8 pm EST so you will have plenty of time to get your deals!
Sit back and watch for the Savings Stories of others to get inspired!
On Sundays, we will choose a random winner for the Bloggy Award and send their gift that week! We will also put their story up on SisterlySavings on Monday for everyone to check out!
Let the fun begin: This week, we are giving away 2 Copies of the CouponMom's book :"The Greatest Secrets of the CouponMom". Its a wonderful resource for anyone just starting out or needing a referesher course!
